Women always ask, “Can you change a man?”, whether it be to trim his facial hair, eat less fast food or simply get him to dress better. Many would answer no, but while he may still have the beard and the burger, this season's menswear trends could get him out of the sweatpants and into the neon, cropped, printed alterna-tux.
Unlike women, men are less concerned with the catwalk, or at least that's what they say. Many consider menswear trends as something that simply passes them by, but this is rarely the case. Trends for men seem to be adopted by what they experience first hand, be it their always-stylish friend who shows up in cargo pants instead of jeans or spotting multi-pocketed shirts on a mannequin in their favourite store. Men like to keep their style simple and insist that it is unique, but the truth is they like to fit in.
Men won't experiment with new trends the way women do (how many times have we seen something daring but fabulous in a magazine and then found it looks hideous on us?), so many of the aspects of this season's new trends could be like teaching your man to run before he can walk. If he's never worn a tux in his life, the new season printed tux is liable to frighten him to death; maybe ease him in to the new season with a pair of wide-legged trousers. Tailoring this season for men is still narrow, but with relaxed silhouettes and loose neck tshirts. As with women's trousers for next season, skinny is out and relaxed, loose styles are in.
Many styles for men this season are easy to achieve with a few slight changes. Neon was a huge trend for next season, but head-to-toe neon only works if you're on the catwalk, or if you're attending an 80s theme party. A cobalt blazer looks great with a simple white shirt and jeans, or a bright yellow tshirt or shirt would be fun with black trousers and a tailored jacket.
Trouser styles for men imitate those for women; like the lusted-after J. Brand houlihans of last season, cargo-style pants are also in for men. The jungle theme is back in on top too, with mulitpocketed camp shirts looking sleek, stylish and casual on men this season.
Again, like women's trends for next season, menswear was beautifully contradictory, allowing complete fun and freedom while remaining completely on trend. For every classic linen suit, navy blazer and white tux was a mass of stripes, 80s inspired styles, velvet jackets and paint-splattered pieces. If your man wants to keep it simple this season choose clean, simple silhouettes with sleek lines and loose fitting trousers in neutral beiges and greys, but if he's a little more adventurous there are plenty of fun, stand-out options for the well-dressed gentleman.

Agree with no head-to-toe neon, sound advice.
